This is ACT’s maiden project, and won the URA heritage award in 2000. The design and construction of Gambier court were undertaken by a panel of experts, well-qualified and experienced in restoration and conservation work.
In the heart of District 9, in a quiet enclave of Kim Yam Road off River valley road, a row of elegant terrace house have been lovingly conserved and restored. These units feature the high ceilings and old world charm of a bygone era. Each two-and-half storey units has built in airwell, creating unique spaces which cannot be duplicated in the standard white boxes typical of modern condominiums. Each master bedroom comes with attached bath/shower and an enormous private balcony, and solid chengai strips have been used to restore these units to their former glory. To top it off, exclusive forecourts, which are rare even for conservation shophouses, provide seclusion amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. Walk through these houses, and you’ll be amazed to find a ten-storey apartment block, fully furnished with every modern facility, exuding an air of timeless ease, yet holding continuity with the heritage of the past.
Completed in 1999.
